T1/2 (Half-Life): Listening Session with Kamila Narysheva

T1/2 (Half-Life): Listening Session with Kamila Narysheva
On Saturday 24 April 2026, artist Kamila Narysheva guides a listening session of the sound installation T1/2 (Half-Life), part of the exhibition Between Fires: Irradiated Imaginations & Anti-Nuclear Solidarities at Framer Framed.

T1/2 (Half-Life) is composed of field recordings made at the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site in eastern Kazakhstan, where the Soviet Union carried out over 450 nuclear tests between 1949 and 1989. The recordings were captured using hydrophones and contact microphones in irradiated rivers, on concrete test structures, and across the surrounding steppe.

The installation is part of the exhibition Between Fires: Irradiated Imaginations & Anti-Nuclear Solidarities, curated by writer and researcher Fabienne Rachmadiev, which traces the intertwined histories of nuclear infrastructures, colonialism and resistance, beginning in the Northern Kazakh steppe.

The event consists of three parts: a short talk by the artist about the field recording process and how the piece was composed, a listening session of approximately 40 minutes in darkened conditions and an open Q&A with the audience.
