In Dub Sessions

In Dub Sessions traces a line from Kingston's soundsystem culture and the studios of the late 1960s through to the dancefloors of today; a recognition that much of modern electronic music's bass-led, spatial vocabulary owes a deep debt to Jamaican mixing tradition. Eight Saturdays this summer at Tolhuistuin, we invite Amsterdam's most committed selectors to play across the full breadth of that sound: roots and lovers rock through dub techno, ambient dub, leftfield disco and beyond. Stacks' homestyle cooking, a summer garden, and a programme built for listening.

Cartopol is an Amsterdam-based composer, producer and DJ from Lima, Perú. In his work he fuses influences from contemporary classical music and underground experimental practice, developing a unique approach to composition and mixing through years of work in the fields of experimental theatre and dance. He has presented work in a wide range of spaces from beloved clubs like Garage Noord to prestigious contemporary venues such as Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ. Together with composer and producer Opus Occvltiis he runs Anekumena Tapes, an eclectic record label dedicated to exploring the grey areas between club music and experimental sound-art, showcasing projects from Amsterdam and beyond.
Lenny channels his love for dancefloor histories and folkloric imagination to conjure a lively style. Underpinned by warm sub-bass and cascading percussion, his sets knit together his broad tapestry of influences into a helter-skelter of psychoactive sensibilities. As CCO of concert series Worm Charming and as host of a monthly breakfast show on Amsterdam’s Echobox Radio, Lenny has a keen ear for the meditative and the delicate.
