Rebetiko emerged in the early twentieth century in the port cities of Greece, among people who had lost almost everything. Songs of longing and loss, of love and hardship, poverty and resistance. Instruments were smashed, songs were censored. But the music lived on in cafés and homes, through the many recordings that were made and is still highly relevant today. Join us and feel the spirit of the rebetes.
