De Nachtwacht
De Nachtwacht is Jiri Taihuttu’s new band project. Whilst he was previously best known for his work in hip-hop, he has now consciously opted for a different approach: a band in which ensemble playing and musicality take centre stage. Dutch-spoken music, warm and multi-layered, with a love of classic song structures and a distinctly contemporary outlook. The band moves between pop, soft rock and funk, without confining itself to a single genre. On stage, the focus is on space, building tension and detail. Jiri’s guitar playing plays a central role in this: virtuosic where possible, understated where necessary. This became immediately apparent during the debut show at Cinetol, which sold out within a minute.
On 9 January, their debut album ‘De Nachtwacht’ was released via Noah’s Ark and also on vinyl. The first singles, including ‘Huis van Zwart en Rood’ and ‘Cowboys’, were met with acclaim and promoted by the likes of Arjen Lubach, Hans Klok, Bente, Achmed Akkabi and Maarten van Rossem. De Nachtwacht has now been confirmed for Eurosonic Noorderslag, Paaspop, Down The Rabbit Hole and various other festivals and venues. With a rapidly growing reputation as a live act and a distinct sound all of their own, the band is already regarded as one of the most promising new Dutch acts.
