Artist Profile: Sickgirl (VACCINE)https://sickgirl.xyz/
Born in Xiamen in 1998, grew up in Guiyang. Dropped out of elementary school in the third grade.During adolescence, the internet served as her spiritual outlet. Her creation focuses long-term on personal history, taboos, danger, and social fringes. Her work has never been separated from her life. In 2021, her photo book u make me sick was banned for "spreading obscenity," her works were confiscated, and she was imprisoned for half a year as a result.
This experience became a turning point in her life. After her release, she adopted the name "VACCINE." Sickgirl's creation is interwoven with her journey: a lonely childhood, an adolescence where the internet was the only outlet, different cities and people, until returning after crossing the border to the other side of the Earth, she began the rebuilding of her spiritual order.
About the documentary
A young Chinese photographer and her partner VT live through the wildest year of their lives, moving between the shadows of the pandemic and trancelike underground parties, chasing a form of freedom that feels almost out of reach. But idealism soon collides with reality. Under a cascade of violence, her former life collapses completely.
To escape a world where justice is unattainable, the two make a difficult and desperate decision. Their route stretches from Asia to South America and then northward—through Thailand, Dubai, Ecuador, and Colombia, and across the Darién Gap, a jungle filled with venomous snakes, mud pits, and raging rivers. In Central America, they pass through churches, makeshift camps, and migrant shelters, traveling alongside families and children on the move. Along a path marked by extortion, deportation, and unexpected blessings, they are forced to learn survival by avoiding danger.
In Mexico, they ride 8,500 kilometers on motorcycles, confronting endless checkpoints, corrupt police, and armed groups. On May 5, 2024, they finally cross the border—an arduously won moment of “temporary success,” followed immediately by forced return. Everything resets to zero. LINE is not a spontaneous road trip but a love letter to wandering souls and untamed devotion—a personal testimony of trauma, resistance, and resilience. They measure freedom with their footsteps and knock on the door of justice with their lives, even when the price stands against the entire world.
