Mining in Peru: An Evening with 2 Peruvian Mining Activists

On May 2nd, Paul Maquet and Edwin Alejandro will visit Amsterdam, invited by Oxfam Novib. They work for Peruvian civil society organizations and they are on a speakers tour in Europe, to raise awareness about the social and environmental impact of mining in Peru. Peru is rich in copper, gold, silver etc. These mines come with devastating impacts on local communities, often indigenous people. They have a 25m film, which shows the dangers of a planned copper mine in the highlands close to the capital of Lima. This mine is a crazy plan which will endanger the water supply of Lima, a city of 10m people in a desert.
