Mindfulness in Playing and Listening
A workshop for anyone interested in how mindfulness exercises work in practice.
Do you notice wandering thoughts when playing or listening to music at a concert? This short workshop can offer insight into dealing with thoughts you don't want to have at that moment.
Specific, simple techniques from the 8-week MBSR training that are helpful for both musicians and anyone experiencing stress. With interactive exercises.
Peter will briefly revisit the essential principles of his combined Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) courses that he did for CvA, called “Mindful Practice”.
He will also shortly introduce two influential perspectives on how the brain and nervous system respond to challenge: Paul Gilbert’s evolutionary model of the three interacting emotional systems and Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory.
Peter will then introduce his own practical model: Awareness of the ThreePart Body, which is directly helpful on the stage.
The lecture will conclude with a series of simple, memorable exercises that can be practised in daily life and applied directly before and during stressful performances.
