EXPO: Meet Rosa Luxemburg

EXPO: Meet Rosa Luxemburg
From 3 April to 8 May, VOX-POP presents a group exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Rosa Luxemburg in collaboration with artists from the PhArt group. They are inspired by her revolutionary ideas and activism. Through various visual artworks and an interactive fringe programme, we will dive deeper into her legacy and current relevance.

Why Rosa Luxemburg?
Rosa Luxemburg (1871-1919) was an influential Marxist thinker, political activist and revolutionary. Her struggle for social justice, democracy and equality ties in seamlessly with contemporary debates on economic inequality, climate activism and the impact of capitalism on education and labour.

PhArt group
The PhArt group is a changing group of artists from various disciplines who take a philosopher, thinker or writer as their subject every few years and organise an exhibition to accompany it. In 2019 the focus was Spinoza, in 2021 Hannah Arendt and in 2024/25 Rosa Luxemburg. For the future, Franz Kafka is on the programme. More information: www.phart.nl.

Programme
In addition to the exhibition, we are organising three special events:

3 April | Opening (16:30 - 18:30)
Come to the festive opening with an introduction by the curators, a mini-lecture by researcher Sara Chronenburg and accordion music by Erica Roozendaal. You can also participate in a creative workshop making growing paper with Guerilla Gardeners.

15 April | Creative workshop (19:00 - 21:00)
Together with alumni-student programme makers Margot Ponssen and Maaike Brink and artists Gerard Vroon and Nanny Kok, we will discuss a text fragment by Rosa Luxemburg and represent her thoughts in a linocut.

8 May | Finissage (16:30 - 18:00)
A closing with space for reflection, discussion and creative workshop in which we connect Luxemburg's ideas with contemporary activism.

Artworks
The exhibition includes works by the following artists:

Helena Kaori Maeda

Allard Boterenbrood

Rienke Enghardt

Gerard Vroon

Erica Roozendaal

Nanny Kok

Peter Oosterhout

From installations and linocuts to video art and interactive objects - each work invites a deeper dialogue with Luxembourg's legacy. Also exhibited are linocuts made by participants during the workshop on 15 April.
