Intimate Reading with Koleka Putuma

Koleka Putuma‘s storytelling has shaped South African literature and theatre. She has published three poetry collections and several plays. In June 2024, Bonnier Books UK
published her latest poetry collection for teens and young adults, We Have Everything We Need To Start Again. Her debut collection, Collective Amnesia (2017), has won multiple prizes, sold over 10,000 copies, been translated into eight languages, and is South Africa’s best-selling poetry book of the 21st century. Putuma won the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Poetry (2022), the first in the Awards’ 49-year history. Can I Get a Witness?, her latest project, is a poetry album that honours collaboration while continuing the tradition of well-crafted poems set to music.

Koleka is the founder and director of Manyano Media, a multidisciplinary creative company that empowers and produces stories by black queer women.
