“FEMME FATALE” with Nathalia Valdés Vergara Theatre

The Play
• The power of women throughout History
Our journey begins with Lilith, who defied the boundaries of biblical paradise by leaving her husband Adam, demanding equality and rebelling against her God. This act of defiance sets the stage for a
historical exploration of women who have followed in her footsteps, sparking anger, war, social change, admiration and unbridled passion around the world and through the ages.
From ancient times to the present day, women have changed their faces, their nationality, their ethnicity, their background, their geography, their social status and even their professions. Despite these variations, they have always been at the centre of important historical events, earning a reputation as catalysts of change. “Il y a une femme dans toutes les affaires; aussitôt qu’on me fait un rapport, je dis: Cherchez la femme!”
– Les Mohicans de Paris – Alexandre Dumas (p) A woman can be a demon, an irresistible beauty, a defender of boundaries, a fearless fencer, a bank employee or a pop star. So... What's a FEMME FATALE? Women's actions are often met with resistance, not only from men, but also from other women. Throughout History, women have navigated complex relationships and rivalries, proving to be
formidable forces in their own right. This project explores the lives and impact of some "Femmes Fatales" and how they have shaped and reshaped the world around them. The play is performed in English and starring the actress Nathalia Valdés Vergara. Actress Nathalia Valdés Vergara

Carmen was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, but is a Spanish national, because of her father. She began her artistic journey in her hometown, where she studied theatre and took her first professional steps on stage. She graduated in Theatre Techniques and Theatre Direction from the Multidisciplinary School of Dramatic Art (EMAD) in Montevideo.
Early in her career, she worked as an assistant director alongside some of the most prominent theatre directors in Uruguay, contributing to a wide range of productions in various venues. Throughout her trajectory, Carmen has embraced multiple roles within the performing arts: lighting designer, drama teacher, set and costume assistant, prop and mask maker, technical assistant, sound
engineer, production manager, TV assistant, and more. This diverse experience gave her a broad and practical understanding of theatrical creation and production.
She also pursued further training in cultural marketing, event management, and intellectual property. For five years, she was part of the Uruguayan National Comedy Team, serving as stage assistant and assistant director, and touring internationally with the company. After directing her first plays, Carmen took on the role of Cultural Manager at a cultural centre run by the Writers’ Association of Uruguay—home to both a theatre and a museum. This marked a temporary pause in her directing career, pause which extended over the 15 years she lived in Madrid. There, she remained creatively active through theatre workshops in local communities, using theatre as a tool for social integration.
Since 2018, Carmen has been based in Amsterdam. In 2020, she returned fully to her artistic practice with “THE RED BOX”, her first monologue written in English. The piece evolved into a four-character play, performed by a multicultural cast of actresses living in the Netherlands. Despite the pandemic-related theatre closures, the production ran for 16 performances during the 2020–2021 season. In 2022, she wrote and directed “MATA HARI, don’t blindfold my eyes”, a solo performance exploring the life of the legendary Dutch dancer and alleged spy. In 2023, her third Amsterdam-based production, “SHAKESPEARE’S SISTER”, was inspired by Virginia Woolf’s imagined character and paid tribute to the first women to act in Shakespeare’s plays. In 2025, Carmen continues her creative exploration of women in History with her newest play, “FEMME FATALE”, presented by THEREDBOX Projects. https://mctoledog.wixsite.com/carmentoledo
