Don’t let the title mislead you into believing it is nothing but a fairy tale. Mermaid Legend contains mythical elements and the undertone of a folk story, but is also an erotic thriller and a bloody revenge film. When a fisherman accidentally witnesses a murder, he and his wife become entangled in the plot of a large corporation trying to buy up the coast of their fishing village, presumably to establish an amusement park there. The film begins calmly, guided by a beautiful, haunting soundtrack and gradually picks up speed until it ultimately crashes at full force into one of the most unhinged climaxes in film history.
