Becomings: a cycle of danced stories
When storytelling legend Dan Yashinsky performed in Amsterdam almost twenty years ago he showed a new generation of artists how deep storytelling can go. He’s back in Amsterdam with a project that’s dear to his heart, don’t miss it!

Danced Stories
This project brings together the arts of dance, traditional stories, and music to explore themes
of creation and transformation. We began working together in the back space of a special bar
in Toronto called Danu Social House, where Dan hosts a monthly storytelling gathering. We’ve
been performing our experiments with danced stories in festivals around the world. For
Mezrab, we’ll be telling/dancing Inviting the Bears, a legend from the Northwest Coast of
Canada; The Hunter and the Swan, a Slavic wondertale about a swan who chooses to become
human; and The Twins, a Shona legend about a land that welcomes all the damaged and
different creatures and people.
Annemarie Cabri is a Canadian performer, choreographer, and the Senior Teaching Artist at the
National Ballet of Canada. Trained at Canada’s National Ballet School, Annemarie had a career
in classical ballet in Europe with the Dutch National Ballet, followed by multiple contemporary
dance and opera projects with tours on world stages. In 2022 she began collaborating with
storyteller Dan Yashinsky on a series of danced stories that evolved into the “becomings”
project.
Dan Yashinsky is a storyteller, writer, and community animator. His books include Suddenly
