Arti Book Club #3 | Fleur Jaeggy

Arti Book Club #3 | Fleur Jaeggy

Arti Book Club #3 | Literature & Conversation

Join us this Sunday for the third edition of the Arti Book Club, offering an in-depth conversation about literature.

A rare opportunity to gain insight into the role of the translator — often invisible, yet essential in shaping how we read literature.

Writer Emily Kocken will be in conversation with translator Hilda Schraa about the work of Fleur Jaeggy, one of the most distinctive voices in European literature.

Jaeggy’s work is read worldwide, but it reaches us through the language and choices of the translator. Yet this role often remains underexposed. What does it mean to translate an author like Jaeggy? How do you carry over her concise, charged style into another language without losing nuance or rhythm?

This conversation not only focuses on Jaeggy’s work, but also on the art of translation itself: questions of precision, interpretation, and the often invisible influence of the translator on how literature is read and understood.

With live music by Oscar-Jan Hoogland.

The sociëteit is open from 12:00 to 17:00, so feel free to combine the program with lunch at Arti.
