Workshop Tablecloth Embroidery during 24 Hours North in Werkplaats Molenwijk

Local residents Sonya & Rezaee from the weekly Molenwijk door Elkaar textile neighborhood studio, together with artist Rachel Walker-Konno, will host an embroidery workshop on the theme “Food Cultures of the World”. Participants are warmly invited to share a food culture in needle and thread. At the end of the day, all these embroidered pieces will be sewn together into one large tablecloth to be used during our community dinners.
In addition to running the Textile Atelier, Sonya also leads Karam Keuken, the women’s cooking collective from Molenwijk, which prepares a free three-course dinner every three months for Kijkje in de Keuken in Werkplaats Molenwijk. The tablecloth will be unveiled during the Kijkje in de Keuken on 26 September, from 17:00 to 20:00.
During 24H Noord, the BuurOven will also be providing fresh baked bread at Werkplaats Molenwijk. This mobile oven is run by local residents and travels through Molenwijk to bring communities together through bread-making. During 24H Noord, visitors can enjoy a freshly baked roll alongside their embroidery work.
Werkplaats Molenwijk explores, through various projects, events, and artistic activities, the intersection of food and art. Food is a mediator for collective gatherings, a major interest and talent within our community, and a bridge to our shared political and personal stories. Children from 6 years old are welcome to participate under the supervision of parents or guardians. No prior embroidery experience is necessary.
