Last summer An Kuper and Lucian Squid worked as artists-in-residency on a new performance at the Plein Theater. They will have two new residency periods from 8-12 December and 26-29 January, a workshop on the 29th of January and a premiere during the Queering Puppets Festival Amsterdam in the start of April (tickets available soon).

How do we carry our bodies in today’s world? And which social structures shape how we feel, move, and express ourselves?
In this playful and reflective workshop, participants explore their relationship to the body through conversation, sculptural extensions, and movement. By crafting and wearing new bodily forms, we open space to rethink identity, presence, and interaction.
We conclude by sharing insights and experiences—discovering together how our bodies can transform, resist, and imagine new possibilities.
The workshop will be hosted by Lucian Kuijpers and An Kuper. Two queer, non-binary, transmasculine artists. This workshop is part of their residency at Het Plein Theater, where they are currently developing a theatre play ‘My body is a temple, until it isn’t’ (working title).
The workshop is accessible for everyone, and is written from a queer perspective. No prior experience needed. The workshop will be in English, unless all participants speak Dutch. The Plein Theater is wheelchair accessible.

My body is a temple, until it isn’t is an autofiction theater play in which two (trans) non-binary lovers search for unapologeticness and joy in a world where right-wing politics, surveillance technology and hypercapitalism feed off each other in a toxic loop. How do you let go of the constant need to justify your (queer) identity and physicality?
During the residency Lucian and An are researching euphoria and self-determination through wearable sculptures, spoken word and physical performance. The body is perceived as a construction site: fluid, unfinished, ever-changing.
Plein Theater Residencies
Plein Theater devotedly offers space to passionate innovators who wish to experiment with (puppet and object) theater, contemporary dance and music, or unexpected interdisciplinary forms.
Curated by artistic director and theater maker Berith Danse, distinctive artists are invited to make our house their home, our stage their laboratory, and all our spaces their sounding board for new stories and voices. Presentations and workshops by residents for neighbors, friends, and enthusiasts are part of the open door of our theater.

Hoe dragen we ons lichaam in de wereld van vandaag? En welke sociale structuren bepalen hoe we ons voelen, bewegen en uiten?
In deze speelse en reflectieve workshop verkennen deelnemers hun relatie tot het lichaam door middel van gesprekken, sculpturale extensies en beweging. Door nieuwe lichaamsvormen te creëren en te dragen, creëren we ruimte om identiteit, aanwezigheid en interactie te heroverwegen.
We sluiten af met het delen van inzichten en ervaringen – samen ontdekken we hoe ons lichaam kan transformeren, weerstand kan bieden en nieuwe mogelijkheden kan verbeelden.
De workshop wordt gehost door Lucian Kuijpers en An Kuper. Twee queer, non-binaire, transmasculiene kunstenaars. Deze workshop maakt deel uit van hun residentie in het Plein Theater, waar ze momenteel werken aan de theatervoorstelling 'My body is a temple, until it isn’t' (werktitel).
De workshop is toegankelijk voor iedereen en is geschreven vanuit een queer perspectief. Er is geen eerdere ervaring vereist. De workshop is in het Engels, tenzij alle deelnemers Nederlands spreken. Het Plein Theater is rolstoeltoegankelijk.

My body is a temple, until it isn’t is een autofictietheaterstuk waarin twee (trans) non-binaire geliefden op zoek gaan naar onbeschaamdheid en vreugde in een wereld waar rechtse politiek, surveillancetechnologie en hyperkapitalisme elkaar in een giftige cirkel voeden. Hoe laat je de constante behoefte los om je (queer) identiteit en lichamelijkheid te rechtvaardigen?
Tijdens de residentie onderzoeken Lucian en An euforie en zelfbeschikking door middel van weareble sculptures, spoken word en fysieke performance. Het lichaam wordt gezien als een bouwplaats: vloeibaar, onaf, voortdurend veranderend.
Plein Theater Residencies
Plein Theater geeft graag gelegenheid aan gedreven vernieuwers die willen experimenteren met (poppen- en object-)theater, hedendaagse dans en muziek, of onverwachte interdisciplinaire vormen.
Gecureerd door artistiek leider en regisseur Berith Danse, worden eigenzinnige kunstenaars uitgenodigd om van ons huis hun huis te maken, onze vloer hun laboratorium, en alle ruimtes – inclusief het plein – hun klankkast voor nieuwe verhalen en geluiden. Presentaties en workshops van residenten voor buurtbewoners, vrienden en liefhebbers horen bij de open deur van ons theater.
