As part of Pride 2025, we will join PLAYGROUND to watch directors Juru and Vitã's 'This Is Ballroom' about the Brazilian ballroom culture, with an introduction by Lionel Deul.
In Rio de Janeiro City and its outskirts, LGBTQ+ youth of color recreates Ballroom culture on their own terms. A portrait of the dramas, the voguing performances, and the art of shade, 50 years after its inception in New York. Rio is burning!
Lionel Deul (he/him) is a community organiser and proud member of the Dutch ballroom scene. In the ballroom scene, he’s known as Lionel 007 and vogues the Old Way, the original style of vogue. His focus lies in making spaces for BIPOC trans people, specifically transmasculine individuals, and being a voice for the multiplicity of the trans experience.
Melkweg often hosts different types of programmes at the same time, such as concerts, club nights and films. Please note that there may occasionally be some noise pollution from other programmes during the screening.
