The Little Blue Notebook

Ties Mellema presents:Try-out

“Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.” — Lewis Carroll

The little blue notebook is lost. The one that held the countless stories of a young, imaginative soul. As Elizabeth attempts to recollect memories of the notebook and its contents, old and new stories unfold, depicted musically through piano and toy piano. The line between reality and imagination gradually blur in a musical wonderland of unexpected repertoire from Crumb to Escher, extended techniques, and sound effects; thrilling and at times unsettling.

The Little Blue Notebook is an out-of-the-box piano recital weaving music, storytelling, and movement by maker Ashley Ho, inviting audiences to reflect on the role of imagination in a troubled world.

Ashley Ho – movement
Arthur Buchholz – director

'With confidence and ease, Elizabeth Goh moves effortlessly between the toy piano and the full-sized concert grand. She makes the toy piano sound like a grand, mature instrument, while bringing out the playful, youthful character of the concert grand. Or is it the other way around?'
In the words of the Dutch Classical Talent jury. Catch an exclusive preview of her exciting new programme at this try-out concert.
