TASHI DORJI (BTN, DRAG CITY)
Tashi Dorji is a guitarist and improvisational musician known for his avant-garde and experimental (read: deeply gnarly, finely arty) approach to music. Tashi’s idiosyncratic take on the instrument, one defined by movement and profound openness to technique, adds up to a post-colonial disembowelment of guitar traditions that stands Tashi next de- and re-constructionist giants as various as Derek Bailey, John Fahey and Bill Orcutt.
Tashi Dorji grew up in Bhutan, on the eastern side of the Himalayas. Residing in Asheville since 2000 and soaking up a vast array of music. Along the way, Dorji developed a playing style unbound by tradition, yet with a direct line to intuitive artistry. His recordings feature improvisations that spasmodically grow along tangential, surprising paths. All references break loose during a composition, as Dorji keys into his own inner world.

TERRIE ‘EX’ HESSELS (TERP label)
Terrie Hessels, born in Westzaan, 12 October 1954. Started playing guitar when he co-founded The Ex in 1979. Some 2.000+ concerts with The Ex ever since. Starts in 2000 the TERP label, for his own impro-projects and African Music. Produced CDs with Tsehaytu Beraki, Getatchew Mekuria, Konono No.1 and Mohammed Jimmy Mohammed; 30+ releases thus far.

ANDY MOOR
Another band member of The Ex in the house today: guitarist/photographer Andy Moor. Moor’s own background is rooted in the post-punk Britain of the 1980s (DOG FACED HERMANS!), but over the years he has collaborated with many musicians (Genevieve Murphy, DJ/rupture, Thurston Moore, Christine Abdelnour) from varied backgrounds and disciplines. Like the other band members of the The Ex Andy Moor & his playing is characterised by versatility & openness.
