For saxophonist Isaiah Collier, jazz is not a relic of the past, but a living language. Emerging from Chicago’s vibrant music scene, he has evolved into a musician who connects tradition to the future. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, from Angel Bat Dawid to Chance the Rapper, and is equally at home in jazz, spoken word, gospel, and funk. With his band the Chosen Few, Collier creates long, narrative compositions that blend together spiritual jazz, collective improvisation, and social themes. His albums are praised for their intensity and ambition, and live, Collier is known for performances that slowly build into almost ritualistic musical experiences. DownBeat magazine rightly named him on its 25 for the Future list in 2024. His music follows in the vein of the spiritual experiments pioneered by John Coltrane, whose music he will perform at the festival.
Super-Sonic Jazz Festival
From Friday, November 20 to Sunday, November 21, the tenth edition of the Super-Sonic Jazz Festival will take place at Paradiso. The festival focuses on innovative artists operating within the broad universe of jazz. Since its first edition in 2017, the festival has grown into a leading platform for artists working at the intersection of jazz, R&B, soul, hip-hop, and more. Major names such as Thundercat, Kokoroko, Robert Glasper, Steve Lacy, Yussef Dayes, and Hiatus Kaiyote have since graced the lineup, most of them even before their international breakthrough.
In addition to the annual festival, Super-Sonic Jazz organizes various activities throughout the year: from intimate concerts in collaboration with Paradiso to the monthly Super-Sonic Jams at Skatecafe. Music is also released via the independent Super-Sonic label. Enthusiasts can join Super-Sonic Support.
