Summer Dance Forever - Seminar: Are You Ready For The Stage?

International Hiphop Dance Festival
Talk: Elise Richards / Kaide Gonzales / Jerson Diasonama / Ibrah Silas Jackson / Lumi SOW / Host: Jimmy Yudat
14:45 Doors 15:00 Seminar: are you ready for the stage?
Every year in August, Summer Dance Forever brings together dancers and dance lovers from around the world for a week-long celebration of music, dance and culture! The festival showcases a wide variety of dance performances, next-level battles, soulful club nights, and energizing workshops to refresh and boost your skills.
In Melkweg Cinema you can watch two powerful films and we’re hosting a seminar again to explore urgent questions from within the culture. This time we dive deep into a deceptively simple one: What does it take to be a choreographer in hip hop or other club and street styles?
A panel of international dancers and makers will share their perspectives on what it means to make and present hip hop dance as a performing art. Through a collective reflection, they'll engage with you to explore what could become your golden standard.
Together we'll touch on questions such as: Do you even want to be called a choreographer? Or would you rather create without the weight of that title, solo or as a crew? What makes you feel ready? And if this is your path, what do you want to bring to the stage, whether that’s a theatre, a club or the streets? What do you represent? What defines your work, your technique, your lineage? Where do you stand in the legacy of hip hop and what legacy are you creating?
