Songs from Bwatun :

Vocals and percussion: Salome Dembele (Mali)
Balafon: Jens Peter Møller (Denmark)

Bwatun, the land of the Bwa, is a vast network of villages located in the border regions between Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Mali. Among the Bwa, since the olding days, music and stories have been passed down through the ages by succeeding generations of musician-families known as Djeli (griots, in french) making a living by playing music and serving the culture as a kind of trans-generational memory-vessels for popular tunes dating back a thousand years.

Raised as a Djeli, music was the main income in the family, and Salome Dembele has been singing professionally since childhood. Through hard work, Salome climbed the steep ladder of the music industry in Mali, released several albums of original music and reached a high level of success before relocating to Amsterdam.
As a healthy contrast to his formal education in western classical composition, Jens Peter Møller has been on a decade-long quest in pursuit of experience and wisdom, immersing himself deep into the practice of west african music from Ghana, Senegal and Mali.
