“Sawt” listening sessions: Palestinian songs played by writer and DJ Rasha Hilwi
Through “Sawt”, the writer and DJ Rasha Hilwi invites us on a sonic journey through the rich landscape of Palestinian music, stories, and literature. She will play a wide range of Palestinian songs—from folk and classical to modern and alternative—interwoven with stories: some personal, some tied to the songs themselves, others about people and places. Themes of love, pain, joy, nature, resilience, and resistance will echo throughout, accompanied by readings of poetry and texts by a diverse array of Palestinian writers and poets. For two immersive hours at Teatro Munganga in Amsterdam, the audience will travel through sound and story—experiencing music, literature, and lived memory—offering a glimpse into the depth, beauty, and diversities of Palestinian culture and identities. Rasha Hilwi is a Palestinian writer, journalist, editor, storyteller, cultural curator, and DJ. Born in Akka and based in Amsterdam. Through her writing and performances, she weaves through the questions and stories surrounding Home بيت and Ghorbah غربة, examining their intersections with motherhood, personal narratives, memory, history, and identity.
