Saberes do Povo Kamayurá Meeting with the indigenous People from Alto Xingu Amazon
‘Knowledge of the Kamayurá People – Meeting with the Indigenous People of the Upper Xingu, Amazon’ – This is a good time to be in direct contact with Brazil’s indigenous peoples. Countless indigenous communities are falling victim to persistent acts of violence perpetrated by farmers who are unwilling to accept the defeat of the far-right candidate Flavio Bolsonaro.

We must support the cause of the indigenous peoples, who are largely responsible for protecting the Amazon rainforest.

Fortunately, the Kamaiurá people live in an area that enjoys greater protection from the Brazilian authorities.
Spending time with them and delving deeper into Kamaiurá knowledge will also be a way for us to show solidarity with other indigenous peoples in Brazil.

The ancient Kamaiurá art & culture The Kamayurá artists have travelled directly from the Amazon rainforest to the Netherlands, and will be at the Munganga Theatre alongside the director, curator, artist and researcher Andreia Duarte (founder and director of Outra Margem) to share the knowledge of this ancient culture through their stories, which offer a worldview centred on health and well-being. In addition to the stories, we will give a brief musical performance, which for the Kamayurá is not ‘merely’ music, but rather the very foundation of their way of life. They are also accomplished graphic artists, and they express their artistic language through bracelets and ornaments that we will bring along to sell. Taking part is a real and effective way of keeping the forest standing. A Outra Margem is a platform for art and thought that explores the power of art as an experience and a force for social transformation.
Its initiatives combine artistic creation, curation and research, with a focus on challenging colonial structures, inequalities and various forms of violence.

A cultura milenar Kamaiurá
