About the Climate Choir

From January onwards, Climate Choir Amsterdam organises monthly rehearsals. We practise protest songs that we sing during climate actions and other events. Music gives us comfort. It is a creative outlet for frustration. It is a way to create something beautiful together, driven by our desire to make the world a better and more beautiful place. Under the guidance of conductor Blue Dog (Matthias Konecny), you rehearse protest songs that inspire people to do better for Mother Earth. We are part of a nationwide network of choirs (klimaatkoren.nl).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be able to read sheet music to join? No. There is no required entry level for our choir. Everyone who loves singing and Mother Earth is welcome. Sheet music is available, but we also work with audio files so you can learn the songs by ear. We do sing multi-part repertoire, so if you have little experience, you are expected to practise and try to improve. It is a bit like football: our club has no entry requirements, but we do sometimes play a match, and then it helps if the team wants to score. If I sing along, do I have to go onto the A12? No. As an action choir, we take part in various protests, demonstrations and other events. From singing at the Climate Vigil (klimaatwake-amsterdam.nl) to actions by Extinction Rebellion where there may be a risk of arrest. It is ALWAYS your own choice which actions you do or do not take part in. Before every action, we clearly communicate in advance whether there may be risks involved. That said, if activism is really not your thing at all, another choir might be a better fit. If you are unsure, you are very welcome to come and get a feel for the atmosphere and see whether the Climate Choir is right for you! Can I join if I do not live in Amsterdam? Yes, but please check klimaatkoren.nl to see if there is a climate choir closer to where you live.
