Reading Counterpower Amsterdam x ADM
Reading Counterpower Amsterdam is a triweekly gathering, during which we collectively read revolutionary texts out loud. Reading Counterpower Amsterdam aims to draw lessons from anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist, anti-colonial, anti-zionist, and anti-fascist movements all around the globe. Because it’s time to build another world together. On the 25th of July Reading Counterpower Amsterdam will host a special edition organized together with ADM (The Academy of Democratic Modernity). This edition will solely focus on the third volume, “The Sociology of Freedom”, of the five-volume work by Abdullah Öcalan.
Abdullah Öcalan actively led the Kurdish liberation struggle as the head of the PKK from its foundation in 1978 until his abduction on February 15th, 1999. From his prison cell he wrote the five-volume work titled “The Manifesto of the Democratic Civilization”. In the third edition Öcalan goes back to the origins of human culture to present a penetrating reinterpretation of the basic problems facing the twenty-first century and an examination of their solutions.
We will take turns reading a paragraph of a chapter from the book aloud. Afterwards, we gather whatever insights or questions it has given us and discuss. We would love for you to join us this evening! 🌟
