Bubbling with Braun’s Demon
Bubbling with Braun's Demon is een live performance die momenten van een onvoorspelbare maar zorgvuldig georganiseerde flow vastlegt. In realtime vormen de performers het geluid van interferenties die voortkomen uit elektronische objecten en magneten die verspreid door de ruimte zijn geplaatst.
Het stuk versterkt het luisteren en verkent thema's als empathie, spiegelen, dialoog, veranderlijkheid, onzekerheid en instabiliteit – en nodigt het publiek uit in een wereld waar geluid en gebaar elkaar voortdurend hervormen.
Oorspronkelijk in opdracht van Radiophrenia Festival Glasgow, waar het in 2023 in première ging, keert Bubbling with Braun's Demon van Jasna Veličković nu terug in een nieuwe, speciaal voor Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam gecreëerde versie, met gastartiest Claudio Jacomucci.
Finissage expo: Electrina's
Na het concert is de finissage van de expositie 'Electrina's', met werkschetsen uit de prille beginjaren van elektro-akoestiek van Nederlandse vrouwelijke componisten, gecureerd door componist Huba de Graaff. Jasna Veličković
Jasna Veličković (RS/NL), geboren in Belgrado en woonachtig in Amsterdam, is componist en performer. Haar werk draait om de relatie tussen geluid, technologie en experiment. Sinds 2008 onderzoekt ze elektromagnetische velden als klankbron, wat resulteerde in haar project The Art of Coil. Ze ontwikkelde het instrument Velicon en werkte met afgedankte elektronische apparaten. Recente werken combineren opnieuw traditionele instrumenten met technologie. Veličković studeerde compositie in Belgrado en Den Haag bij o.a. Louis Andriessen. Haar muziek werd uitgevoerd op internationale festivals en door gerenommeerde ensembles. Ze is medeoprichter van CHINCH en TkH: Walking Theory / Teorija koja Hoda.
Claudio Jacomucci
Claudio Jacomucci componist en accordeonist, is een veelzijdig muzikant, gespecialiseerd in hedendaagse muziekvormen. Hij bespeelt zowel klassieke accordeon als een prototype van een microtonale en geprepareerde accordeon die hij zelf heeft ontworpen en gerealiseerd.
Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam
Met een voorliefde voor experiment en vernieuwing presenteert het Plein Theater Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam. Gloednieuwe composities van toonaangevende musici vormen de ingrediënten van deze concertserie voor hedendaagse kamermuziek. Basklarinettist Fie Schouten en componist Aspasia Nasopoulou cureren de serie, die maandelijks op zondagmiddag te beluisteren is. Doorgaans in het Plein Theater zelf, soms op locatie.

Bubbling with Braun’s Demon
Bubbling with Braun’s Demon is a live performance that captures moments of an unpredictable yet meticulously organised flow. In real time, the performers shape the sound of interferences emerging from electronic objects and magnets arranged throughout the space.
The piece amplifies the act of listening and explores themes of empathy, mirroring, dialogue, changeability, uncertainty, and instability — inviting the audience into a world where sound and gesture continuously reshape each other.
Originally commissioned by Radiophrenia Festival Glasgow, where it premiered in 2023, Bubbling with Braun’s Demon from Jasna Veličković now returns in a newly revisited version created especially for Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam, featuring guest performer Claudio Jacomucci.
Finissage exhibition: Electrina's
The concert will be followed by the finissage of the exhibition 'Electrina's', featuring working sketches from the early years of electroacoustics by Dutch female composers, curated by composer Huba de Graaff. The exhibition also features work by Jasna Veličković.
Jasna Veličković
Jasna Veličković is a Belgrade-born Dutch composer and performer based in Amsterdam. Her deep affection for sound, combined with an enduring fascination with the interplay between music and technology and a strong inclination toward sonic experimentation, forms the core of her artistic development.
Since 2008, she has developed her ongoing research project The Art of Coil, exploring the musical potential of electromagnetic fields—both as a source of sound and as compositional material. This research led to the creation of a new instrument, the Velicon—an electronic system composed of magnets and metal objects animated by coils.
Through this exploration, Veličković’s compositional method has evolved: from shaping definite, traditional sounds, to provoking sonic change through interference between electromagnetic fields, and ultimately to combining both approaches.
Representative works include VrisKrik.EXE (1997/99) for electronics and orchestra, Last Song (2009) for percussion quartet and coils, Shadow Studies (2009–13) for coils and various instruments, sUn (2014)—the first composition for Velicon, Remote Me (2018) for remote controls and coils, Opera of Things (2019), Underneath (2021) for hyper-organ and coils [recipient of the Stevan Mokranjac Prize for the best Serbian work premiered in 2021], Adapting (2022) for adapters and ensemble and Constellation #11 (2024) for Velicon.
Claudio Jacomucci
Claudio Jacomucci, composer and accordionist, is an eclectic musician with a strong interest in contemporary music forms. He plays both classical accordion and a prototype of microtonal and prepared accordion that he has designed and realised. He has cooperated with Luciano Berio, Franco Donatoni, György Kurtág, Salvatore Sciarrino, Louis Andriessen, and performed with Terry Riley, Stefano Scodanibbio, Michel Godard, David Moss, Joel Rubin, Dario Calderone, Naomi Sato, QuarteNo Prometeo, Francesco Dillon, Simone Spinaci, Daniele Roccato, Kálmán Balogh; he has been performing at Berlin Philharmonic, Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Cornell University, RadioFrance, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam, Tonhalle Zurich, Gaudeamus, Bimhuis, Holland Fes8val Amsterdam,. He has given masterclasses at Paris Conservatory, Royal Academy of Music of London, Sibelius University Helsinki, Danish Royal Academy of Music Copenhagen, Chopin University Warsaw, Amsterdam Conservatory, Hochschule für Musik Würzburg and Detmold, Folkwang University Essen. He’s based in Amsterdam and he is accordion professor at the Conservatory G.B.Pergolesi in Fermo (Italy).
Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam
With a love for experiment and innovation, Plein Theater presents Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam. Brand-new compositions by leading musicians form the core of this concert series dedicated to contemporary chamber music. Bass clarinetist Fie Schouten and composer Aspasia Nasopoulou curate the series, which can be enjoyed on Sunday afternoons each month—usually at Plein Theater itself, and occasionally at other locations.
