Amsterdam has a long history as one of the European capitals of Jazz, next to Paris, Copenhagen and London. Many American legends such as Chet Baker, Ben Webster or Johnny Griffin spent a significant amount of time in the Netherlands. Influenced and schooled by these grandmasters there is a whole generation of Dutch legends such as Rita Reys, Pim and his brother Ruud Jacobs, John Engels or Han Bennink that have been passing on the knowledge to future generations of jazz musicians. While not always very visible to the public eye, this music has always been very alive in Amsterdam.
Saxophonist Ben van Gelder and guitarist Reinier Baas (winner of the Boy Edgar prize 2025) proudly announce the release of their third collaborative record, ‘This Is Water’. This album is a testament to their unique artistic synergy, rooted in the American jazz tradition, but with unmistakably European flair. Drawing from a shared musical vocabulary developed during their 15-year collaboration, Baas and van Gelder effortlessly navigate a diverse range of moods and atmospheres.
Eppinger/Braysher Quartet (feat. Darryl Hall & Eric Ineke)A truly international, multi-generational band, the Linus Eppinger-Sam Braysher Quartet releases its debut album on the iconic Spanish label Fresh Sound New Talent in 2026. With a sound rooted in the classic swinging jazz of the ’50s and ’60s, the band’s varied repertoire includes music associated with Horace Silver, Dusty Springfield, Benny Goodman, George Cables and Frank Sinatra.
Linus Eppinger: inspired by the bluesy swagger of Wes Montgomery and George Benson, the guitarist is now one of Amsterdam’s busiest musicians. “Eppinger shows a musical maturity that is unparalleled for such a young musician“ (Jazzism).
Sam Braysher: London alto saxophonist “whose warm tone and consonant and inquisitive approach to harmony is attracting growing attention on the British jazz scene” (All About Jazz), and whose recorded collaborations with Jorge Rossy, Michael Kanan and Sara Dowling have received critical acclaim.
Darryl Hall: powerful American double bassist who won the Thelonious Monk jazz prize before working with Cedar Walton, Ravi Coltrane, Carmen Lundy and many others, and now based in France.
Eric Ineke: legend of Dutch jazz, whose hard-swinging beat has accompanied Dexter Gordon, George Coleman, Al Cohn, Barry Harris and so many others.
O.P.’s Electroacoustic Turbulence O.P. is Oscar Ployart and Electroacoustic Turbulence is his steampunk-esque version of the jazz pianotrio. In the center stands the iconic Wurlitzer with its vintage intrigue and captivating sound. The repertoire consists of original hits and serenades of the past.
