New Amsterdam Trio

The New Amsterdam Trio is an international collaboration that finds Swiss Pianist Daniel Roser, Dutch Percussionist Gustan Asselbergs and New York Trombonist and Countertenor David Whitwell beginning to search for a new path in improvised music. They have seamlessly fused art songs of Schubert, Bernstein, Dowland, American folk songs and others with their own brand of accessible, tonally centered post jazz improvisation.
The group holds a clarity of musical idea above all else, acknowledging the immense trust placed in them by their audiences- they believe that music happens to an audience not only intellectually but also corporally, and thus they bring a style of improvisation that is immediately approachable, mixing freely improvised musical situations with pre planned forms and melodies.
Neither entertainment nor meditation, their music floats somewhere in between, leaving space in their music not only for each other but for the audience to find something they may be searching for.
