Mountaineer is de band van singer-songwriter Marcel Hulst. Eind 2014 neemt hij de verstilde akoestische plaat 1974 op in zijn thuisstad Amsterdam. Intieme liedjes waarop akoestisch gitaar, lapsteel, piano, contrabas en een soms fluisterende zang
de grenzen verkennen tussen americana, folk en alt-country. Als in 2022 de opvolger Lewis & Clark uitkomt bij Concerto Records valt alles op z’n plaats: NRC noemt het album ‘tijdloos’ (****) en OOR spreekt van ‘het eerste sterke
album van Nederlandse bodem van 2022’.

In april 2026 verschijnt de opvolger Country Dragon, onder de vleugels van Excelsior Recordings. Samen met producer Diederik van den Brandt (Aidan & the Wild) werkte Mountaineer ruim een jaar aan het melancholische en bij vlagen psychedelische
album waarop elf songs over verlies, wankele idealen en persoonlijke tegenslag een plek vinden.

Mountaineer is the band of singer-songwriter Marcel Hulst. At the end of 2014, he records the serene acoustic album 1974 in his hometown of Amsterdam. Intimate songs in which acoustic guitar, lap steel, piano, double bass, and hushed vocals
explore the boundaries between Americana, folk, and alt-country. When the follow-up Lewis & Clark is released by Concerto Records in 2022, everything falls into place: Dutch newspaper NRC calls the album “timeless” (****) and music magazine OOR refers to it as “the first strong album from the Netherlands in 2022.”

In April 2026, the band releases its third album Country Dragon, under the wing of Excelsior Recordings. Together with producer Diederik van den Brandt (Aidan & the Wild), Mountaineer spent over a year crafting the melancholy and at times
psychedelic album, featuring eleven songs about loss, faltering ideals, and personal setbacks.
