Monokate

The Ukrainian singer and Eurovision star Kateryna Pavlenko has taken a break from her work with the band Go_A and introduced her solo side project, Monokate. The project reveals another facet of Kateryna’s musical identity. While Go_A are known for their distinctive ethno-electronic sound, Monokate offers alternative indie pop with a trip-hop vibe — more intimate, emotional and cinematic.

Her debut album, Половина мене (Half of Me), has already captivated listeners not only in Ukraine but far beyond its borders. The album was performed live for the first time at ESNS / Eurosonic Noorderslag, one of Europe’s most important music showcase festivals, held annually in Groningen, the Netherlands. Monokate performed with Belgian musicians from the band Slow Pilot.

The release received critical acclaim and won the ‘New Sound’ category at the Zolota Zorya Lirum Awards. While the studio version draws you deep into its trip-hop aesthetic and bold intimacy, the live show, performed with a full band, becomes a blend of post-rock, shoegaze and experimental sounds. This setting amplifies the artist’s unrestrained emotionality — an artist who is accustomed to giving herself completely to the stage.
