About the Mini-Safaris:
This summer, children and teenagers in Amsterdam-Noord are going on an adventure at De Ceuvel! In a fun and accessible way, they’ll discover just how much life is hiding in their own neighborhood.
During these Mini-Safaris (8 in total), they’ll explore the Ceuvel grounds together with a guide. You’ll search for everything that lives, crawls, flies, or grows between the pavement, piers, and plants — from snails and bees to water creatures, birds, and wild herbs.
Afterwards, you’re guaranteed to see the nature around you with fresh eyes.
About this Water Safari
Did you know that 30% of Amsterdam is water? During this Mini Safari, we’ll dive into the hidden world living in the water. Ecological architect Amber Beernink will guide you through her floating gardens: small biotopes that help improve water quality and support urban nature.
We’ll walk from De Ceuvel to the floating exhibition. From the shore, we’ll observe 10 different gardens and listen to the stories the water creatures have to tell. You might even spot a fish in the fish tower or discover something yourself through the aquascope.
Bring your swim gear if you like — you can swim between the floating gardens!
Info for Parents and Guardians
For this safari we start at De Ceuvel and take a short walk (10 minutes) to the Waterkaravaan. The structure of the safari is as follows: we gather at 11:00, start at 11:10, explore for about 40 minutes, and finish around 12:00.
Children take part under the supervision of a parent, guardian or another responsible adult. It is not allowed to leave your child unattended. You remain responsible during the activity. Swimming is at your own risk and participants must have at least a basic swimming certificate (equivalent to Zwemdiploma A).
Parents are warmly welcome to join. The safaris are fun and educational for all ages.

About the Waterkaravaan
On Saturday 12 July, the Waterkaravaan will be officially opened with a free floating gardens festival. Canoe safaris start at 11:00. From 15:00 to 17:00 there will be music, stories, workshops, coloring sheets, and a tasting.
The Waterkaravaan is a travelling exhibition of floating gardens for the residents of the water. Discover how beautiful life in our canals and waterways is — and can become. Immerse yourself in the wondrous water world and meet your underwater neighbors.
