MidWest Radio Gymzaalconcert: HESTER & Stella

HESTER blends honesty with fantasy. Like a distant gaze drifting across landscapes, lost deep in thought yet perhaps at its most peaceful, this is how HESTER sounds. From the comfort of our luxurious cabin, we travel through misty cities, stormy beaches and fluorescent underwater worlds. The landscape keeps changing, but there seems to be no final destination in sight. HESTER is a four-piece band that transforms alternative indie rock ballads into wondrous paintings.

At the heart of the band is Damian Bosch’s voice. His aching falsetto paints a dreamy backdrop for his raspy lower register, where he tells his stories. He sings about the rawest forms of honesty, the dystopia of our time, and the one thing that connects us all: love. His voice evokes singers such as Jeff Buckley, Tamino and Mark Lanegan.

Amsterdam-based band Stella brings together their love of ’90s rock, ’00s pop and shoegaze into a sound entirely their own, which the band describes as “soft-grunge.” Songwriter Tosca van der Waals’ raw and deeply personal songs pull you into her dark world of long nights and conflicted thoughts, broken hearts and (bad) parties. The band has already caught the attention of 3voor12 and British blog For The Rabbits, and made a strong impression as a live act during Popronde. Following the release of their debut EP I Love You, Fish at Paradiso, the band is gearing up for its next chapter: dreamy, dark and straight from the heart.
