Lezing: Van muze tot misverstand

Lezing: Van muze tot misverstand

How were Coba Ritsema and the Amsterdam Joffers portrayed by the press and art critics during their lifetimes, and why did that image change after their deaths?

The Amsterdam Joffers were closely associated with Arti et Amicitiae. In 1919, Coba Ritsema and Lizzy Ansingh were among the first female board members with voting rights. Their work was admired and praised at the time, but after their deaths, the assessment of their work changed dramatically.

In this richly illustrated lecture, Naftalie Hershler, director of the Kunsttunnel Foundation and initiator of the Ritsema exhibition at the Noord-Veluws Museum, demonstrates how art criticism, changing tastes and the writing of art history have together shaped the image of this group of artists.

A story of artistic recognition, perception and oblivion, with a special connection to the history of Arti itself.

*For our Arti members, a free guided tour is coming up at the Noord‐Veluws Museum in Nunspeet.

The Arti Shuffle is a public programme at the artists’ association Arti et Amicitiae, bringing together visual art, performance, music, literature and film.

In collaboration with Arti members and external makers, each edition offers a surprising and multifaceted programme that creates new connections, attracts a wide audience and brings fresh energy to the sociëteit.
