Letter Writing Solidarity
Evening Starts at 19h
The talk will be in English
Stamps, envelopes, letters, and guidelines on how to write will be made available.
The Fort van Sjakoo will host a letter-writing event for political prisoners facing decades in prison in the US, amidst an ever-increasing state of fascism and repression there. It will act as a gathering for international solidarity and a proper warm-up event for visitors to the Amsterdam Anarchist bookfair. Plus, a great way to visit the Fort van Sjakoo!
The event will offer information and a brief presentation on the “Prairieland Defendants” in Texas, USA. The Prairieland Defendants are over a dozen individuals facing years in prison as a result of a case that has become a testing ground for Trump’s efforts to deem ‘antifa’ as a ‘terror organization’ in the USA. Lives have already been trampled by traumatic repression and pre-emptive punishment for these comrades facing the wrath of the state. And their case will also potentially communicate new precedents of repression, anti-fascists and anarchists should prepare for across the USA, and around the world.
In addition to information on the case, letter-writing materials and a guide for safely sending letters to prisoners in the USA will be made available to participants. Letters to prisoners, especially those in the United States, offer a lifeline of hope and support through some of the harshest times. Every letter sent is a reminder of the solidarity that exists beyond the walls, and a simple practice that helps preserve international solidarity and a community that supports one another amidst worsening repression.
Next to that we want to see if we can collect some funding for the Defendants, to help a bit with all the legal costs the people are facing.
