Laura Veirs
Laura Veirs is an American singer-songwriter from Oregon who combines poetic folk with the raw edges of indie rock. Over a career spanning almost thirty years, she has released fourteen solo albums and collaborated with artists such as kd lang, Neko Case, Sufjan Stevens and The Decemerists. In 2026, ‘Temple Songs’ will be released – her first album in four years and the first record she has produced entirely on her own.
After a period during which she wasn’t sure whether she would write any more songs, Veirs built a studio in her back garden. There, she recorded the album in three months using two microphones and a laptop. She deliberately left small imperfections in the recording; at times, you can even hear the rain on the roof and birds around the studio. Her voice and nylon-stringed guitar take centre stage, complemented by electric guitars, bass and drums. Live, she performs the new songs with a small line-up, staying true to the form in which they were created.
