Jazzy Thursdays x Max Boyer & the Berserk Band
Max Boyer & the Berserk Band is a modern jazz quartet that sits at the crossroads of tradition and innovation, skillfully blending influences of folk and church music. The project was born from the vision of Max Boyer, guitarist and composer, who sought to create a unique sonic universe through an unconventional lineup: two guitars, double bass, and
drums. This setup was directly inspired by the sound of Emmanuel Michael, whose
work profoundly influenced Max’s artistic approach.
The desire to collaborate with musicians who share similar sensibilities played a
fundamental role in the group’s formation. Double bassist Justin Maas, who shares
Max’s musical vision, naturally joined the project, bringing finesse and depth to the
rhythmic foundation. Guitarist Luca Sturny complements the duo with a compact
yet powerful playing style, allowing for a rich and nuanced dialogue between the
two guitars. On drums, Paul Lefèvre delivers fluid, energetic, and deeply grounded
rhythms that perfectly align with the group’s identity — strengthened by a longtime
friendship with Max.
The music of Max Boyer & the Berserk Band navigates between lyricism and
energy, combining modernity and emotion with great mastery. Inspired by artists
like Emmanuel Michael, Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band, and Joel Ross, the
group aims to offer an intimate yet vibrant musical experience. Their debut album,
expected in 2026, marks a significant milestone in defining this distinctive sonic
identity, blending original compositions with bold improvisations.
This project reflects a true artistic journey fueled by a spirit of exploration and deep
camaraderie, where each member fully contributes to the richness and coherence
of the sound.
