In search of democracy 3.0 | Warming Up Festival

In Search of Democracy 3.0 is a performance by Nieuwe Helden about the future of our political systems. Today’s democracy is put under the microscope once again—by the performers and by you. After all, in a democracy, every voice should be heard.

Democracy is under pressure. Distrust, authoritarian leaders, populism, and algorithms sweep through our societies. Together, we’ll investigate how everyone can have a voice in democratic processes—especially in a time of ruthless deforestation, devastating floods, and a rapidly warming planet. What must we change, and how?

For nearly six years, Stichting Nieuwe Helden has been touring across Europe with this live research performance. In this interactive, fast-paced show, audiences and performers explore the future of democracy. Which values matter most? Who decides what’s important “for everyone”? And above all: how can we best live together? Which new ideas and possibilities are already emerging around the world?

Provocative, inspiring, and—most importantly—concrete! Through theater, music, and direct dialogue, everyone has the chance to participate—or simply observe. The result: an open, accessible atmosphere where your own ideas and questions take center stage.

In Search of Democracy 3.0 was created through a collaboration between Studio Possible Futures (Stichting Nieuwe Helden) (NL/BE), ARSENAAL (BE), and Het Zuidelijk Toneel (NL), as part of the pilot project In Search of Democracy 3.0 within the European cultural network IN SITU.
