In Dub Sessions

In Dub Sessions traces a line from Kingston's soundsystem culture and the studios of the late 1960s through to the dancefloors of today; a recognition that much of modern electronic music's bass-led, spatial vocabulary owes a deep debt to Jamaican mixing tradition. Eight Saturdays this summer at Tolhuistuin, we invite Amsterdam's most committed selectors to play across the full breadth of that sound: roots and lovers rock through dub techno, ambient dub, leftfield disco and beyond. Stacks' homestyle cooking, a summer garden, and a programme built for listening.

Saturday the 20th of June brings Maurane Gabriël, Amsterdam-based artist and architect, with a 5-hour set of experimental ambient dub: dreamy organ tones, prog-rock and lovers rock, trippy percussive melodies, all carried by a deep love of percussion. An architect's instinct for space and dimension finds its natural counterpart in dub's own language of echo and absence.
