Ibibio Sound Machine

Ibibio Sound Machine
London-based Afrofunk with a soft spot for disco and post-punk

Ibibio Sound Machine isn’t particularly concerned with where one genre ends and another begins: West African rhythms weave their way through electronica, funk, disco and post-punk. The eight-piece band was formed in London in 2013 around the British-Nigerian frontwoman Eno Williams and producer and saxophonist Max Grunhard. Behind them, synthesisers, brass, drums and bouncy basslines ensure that standing still soon becomes difficult.

Ibibio Sound Machine now have five albums to their name and have become a fixture across international stages. The band have performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, Green Man and Rock En Seine, and played at Wembley Stadium as the support act for Coldplay.

After more than ten years, Ibibio Sound Machine still sound just as curious and uninhibited as ever. Their sixth album, ‘Chopping Mountain’, is due for release on 11 September via Merge Records.
