HUMANS OF FILM FESTIVAL 2025

Humans of Film Festival blaast dit jaar vijf kaarsjes uit — en alsof dat nog niet genoeg reden is voor een feestje, viert onze thuisstad Amsterdam ook haar 750ste verjaardag. Dubbel feest dus! Van 19 t/m 21 september strijkt het festival neer bij LAB111 met een programma vol urgente, ontroerende en verbindende films.This year, Humans of Film Festival is blowing out five candles — and as if that wasn’t enough reason to celebrate, as Amsterdam, the festival’s beloved home base, turns 750! Double the party! From 19–21 September the festival takes over LAB111 with a moving, urgent and unifying film programme.

Het thema van dit jaar is Intergenerationeel | Toen, Nu en in de Toekomst (Intergenerational | Then, Now and Later). Verwacht een mix van (inter)nationale speelfilms, korte films en documentaires vol persoonlijke verhalen die verbonden zijn met grotere kwesties die in de wereld spelen. Humans of Film Festival richt zich op sociaal gedreven cinema en geeft structureel ruimte aan stemmen die vaak ondervertegenwoordigd zijn in de filmwereld: filmmakers van kleur, queer perspectieven en andere verhalen buiten de mainstream.

Naast de films kun je bij het festival ook zelf aan de slag in een reeks creatieve community-workshops. Op het programma staan onder meer een drag king performance workshop, spoken word sessies, en button- en printmaking. Daarnaast is er een verdiepende workshop voor filmmakers waarin verschillende perspectieven en ‘gazes’ binnen het film kijken en maken worden onderzocht.

This years theme is Intergenerational | Then, Now and Later (Intergenerationeel | Toen, Nu en in de Toekomst).

Expect a mix of (inter)national features, shorts, and documentaries that tell personal stories that tie into bigger issues playing out in the world today. Humans of Film Festival is all about socially driven cinema and consistently makes space for voices that are too often underrepresented in the film industry: filmmakers of colour, queer perspectives, and other stories outside the mainstream.

But it doesn’t stop at film — you can also get hands-on with a series of creative community workshops. On the programme are a drag king performance workshop, spoken word sessions, and button & print making. For filmmakers, there’s also an in-depth workshop exploring different perspectives and cinematic gazes.
