Slug in the toilet — singing you into her slimy, haunted dreams
What if the slug you feared was actually your spirit animal? A slug crawls out from the bathroom drain, strangely familiar - a memory of the forest floor with countless glistening bodies underfoot. The disgust is close enough to become a fascination.
Slug is a soft-concert combining movement and spoken word in theatre. On a slime-covered stage shifting between a humid forest and an intimate bathroom, performers trace the story and guide you through dreams of something viscous the female body produces. Sit close to the floor, and witness an intimate ritual that slowly transforms abjection into celebration.
Xiao Chuyue
Xiao Chuyue is an Amsterdam-based performer and dance maker from Hubei, China, graduating from SNDO (choreography) in Amsterdam this year. Her artistic path began in Shanghai, where she joined the performance ensemble ao_ao_ing (老妖精), developing an interdisciplinary practice that connects performance with her background in communication and media.
Her work moves across image, fiction, and the body, exploring the blurred boundaries between the virtual and the physical, the domestic and the public.
For this performance, Xiao collaborates with artist and musician Ping-En Hung to reclaim the female body from shame and transform disgust into a ritualistic celebration.

Each year in September, Amsterdam Fringe Festival showcases a mixture of theatre, performance and dance, created by new, upcoming and untamed talents.
We present a multidisciplinary program containing over 55 artists of diverse backgrounds, origins and futures. Our festival is a free zone for experiment and offers a stage to new makers and their stories. Amsterdam Fringe Festival is an ode to theatrical madness, independent minds and a plea to artistic freedom. A warm, intimate embrace of experimentation at its core: the outcome might be extremely surprising.
The entire city is our playground: from a garden to a bar and into a theatre, north to south; for 11 days you can find us at 23 locations, spread across Amsterdam.

Wat als de slak waar je bang voor was eigenlijk je spirit animal is? Een slak kruipt uit het badkamerputje, vertrouwd op een vreemde manier - een herinnering aan de bosboden met talloze glinsterende lichamen onder je voeten. De walging is dichtbij genoeg om een fascinatie te worden.
Slug is een soft-concert dat beweging en spoken word in het theater combineert. Op een met slijm bedekt podium dat verschuift tussen een vochtig bos en een intieme badkamer, volgen performers het verhaal en leiden je door dromen van iets visceus dat het vrouwelijk lichaam produceert. Zit dicht bij de vloer, en wees getuige van een intiem ritueel dat walging langzaam omzet in een viering.

We presenteren een multidisciplinair programma van ruim 55 makers/ groepen, met uiteenlopende achtergronden, herkomsten en toekomsten. Ons showcasefestival is een vrijhaven voor experiment en biedt een podium aan nieuwe makers en verhalen. Amsterdam Fringe Festival is een ode aan de theatrale gekte, de onafhankelijke geest en een pleidooi voor artistieke vrijheid. Een dikke, innige omhelzing van het experiment in de ware zin des woords: eentje waarvan de uitkomst je nog echt verrassen kan.
De hele stad is onze speelplaats; van tuin tot bar tot theater, van Noord tot Zuid, je vindt ons 11 dagen lang op zo’n 23 locaties verspreid over heel Amsterdam.
