FCA Book Club - Feminism for the World
Feminism for the World (2025) - 16th November at 16:30 in NieuwLand
Our next read is Feminism for the World a collaboration collection which includes texts by some very awesome feminists - some of whose work we’ve read a little of together before and some of whose we haven’t. The authors are Lola Olufemi, Françoise Vergès, Silvia Federici, Verónica Gago, Zahra Ali, Rama Salla Dieng, Sayak Valencia & Djamila Ribeiro. It should be an exciting read and discussion!
The beautiful Het Fort van Sjakoo in Amsterdam has several copies listed as being in stock and is usually open to be contacted if you wish to order something they do not have https://sjakoo.nl/en/product/feminism-for-the-world/
Here’s what is written on their website about the book:
“In the years since #MeToo, misogyny, sexism, and gender-based violence have flooded the news and our social media timelines. Anti-privilege politics and intersectionality have entered the mainstream – systematically trolled on one end of the spectrum and embraced, to questionable ends, on the other. But what has this increased visibility entailed, other than the marketization of the feminist struggle? Feminism for the World argues that we have been witnessing an erasure of feminism as a long-term tradition, with its many conflicting histories and geographies of struggle elided and forgotten. In this ground-breaking collection, eight leading international figures of contemporary feminism highlight feminist struggles and traditions from the Global South, presenting feminism as an impossible project without international solidarity from the West. In doing so, they revive authentic internationalism and propose paths for present and future generations.”
We'll meet on Sunday 16th November at 16:30 in NieuwLand.
There will be a donation jar and some refreshments available (cash or pin). NieuwLand receives no subsidies and is run entirely by volunteers, please think about donating something if you are able as this helps us keep the lights on and our events free.
To learn more about NieuwLand visit their website (https://nieuwland.cc). Currently there are heavy roadworks outside of NieuwLand and the street has been dug up, leaving replacement panels instead of a pavement. If you have access needs regarding the event, that you feel may not be in place, please get in contact with us so that we can do our best to incorporate these.
If you want to attend the session but find it difficult to get hold of the book we will try to help.
Like the FCA more generally we aim to be a harassment free space for everybody. If you are new to our meetings, or feel you need a refresher please read our code of conduct to find out what behaviours we hope for from you, and hold ourselves to in our sessions http://www.thefeministclub.nl/coc
If there are topics or questions you would like to discuss please bring those with you!
We are looking forward to seeing you!
