About DIY bicycle workshop ‘De Standaard’

This community bike kitchen is an accessible bicycle repair workshop at De Ceuvel, where residents of Amsterdam-Noord can learn how to repair and maintain their own bicycles with the help of a bicycle mechanic on 18 Fridays throughout 2026.

At a time of increasing transport poverty and a throwaway culture, De Standaard aims to provide a shared space where practical and social solutions can be tested and exchanged. In this bicycle workshop, we work according to circular principles and participants can share their passion for and knowledge of bicycles.

A DIY workshop for everyone and every kind of bicycle, where sustainability, connection and self-reliance are at the heart of what we do.

Frequently asked questions:

• Can I simply drop by? Please sign up in advance using this form, so the bicycle mechanic knows how many people to expect. Having trouble signing up online? Feel free to drop by.
  
• I am not practical at all. Can I still work on my own bicycle? No problem, this is something you can learn. A bicycle mechanic will guide you and you can ask any questions you may have. You learn by doing: start with a small repair or some simple maintenance and you will gradually become more confident.
• Does it cost money? Use of the space, tools and guidance is free. Donations are welcome!
  We offer a selection of parts reclaimed from old bicycles, available for a donation. Any additional parts needed for your repair must be arranged and paid for by you.
  
• What can I come by for?
  De Standaard focuses on repairs and maintenance. You can hang up your bicycle and use the basic tools provided to work on it yourself.Do you have a larger bicycle project in mind? Let us know through the registration form and we will look at what is possible together.
• I am not sure which parts I need for my bicycle. How can I find out? Drop by during opening hours on a Friday beforehand and discuss what you need with the bicycle mechanic. This will help you come well prepared to work on your bicycle.

Safety and guidelines

You remain responsible for your own safety and your bicycle. Wear clothes that may get dirty.
