Chat Pile
In a world increasingly characterised by disposable content, Chat Pile responds with something that feels painfully real: a mindset that permeates ‘Who Loves The Sun’, their third full-length album. Since the band’s formation just over six years ago, the Oklahoma City-based quartet Chat Pile has evolved from a messy passion project into a leading underground heavy act. The band creates a crushing and cathartic take on noise rock. Nothing about ‘Who Loves The Sun’ feels artificial. Whilst their debut album ‘God’s Country’ depicted a quintessentially American form of anxiety and its follow-up ‘Cool World’ portrayed a cruel planet characterised by global systemic violence, the new album lays bare how collective indifference defines this new century. With images of coastlines devouring cities, dead-end jobs and submission to data-driven artificiality, the album dissects the apathy-fuelled state of 21st-century existence as a slow-motion apocalypse.
