Another Perspective
Huis Marseille is proud to announce a full evening programme with special guests in the context of the exhibition Rooms We Made Safe by Michella Bredahl.
In this exhibition Michella Bredahl takes us through a living archive of her emotional and powerful photography. This visual essay on reclaiming space begins with her childhood, as the child of a single mother living in a social housing complex on the outskirts of Copenhagen, through intimate portraits of family and friendship, to the empowering movement language of pole dancing.
In this conversation the artist, together with the Paris-based curator and writer Martha Kirszenbaum, who curated the French Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale represented by Laure Prouvost, and the dancer and performer Assiata “Miss” Adams, will explore themes such as femininity, heritage, the eye of the beholder, and support systems. Visitors can also look forward to a live performance by a professional pole dancer in the unique setting of Huis Marseille.
‘Bredahl’s exploration of femininity is rooted not in identity politics, but in presence.’

About Assiata Adams (Miss Adams)Miss Adams is a performer, pole dance artist, and figure model. Holding a Master’s degree in Law from Sciences Po in Paris, she complemented her legal training with African American Studies and a critical engagement with questions of law and discrimination. Her artistic work explores movement as a form of political expression. Miss Adams’ performances engage with themes such as intimacy, Afro-feminism, and community, while acknowledging the origins of pole dance in strip culture and honoring this heritage through her practice. This discipline also functions as a means of reclaiming her body and identity within the public sphere, asserting presence, autonomy, and the power of community.
PublicationAccompanying the exhibition is the publication Rooms We Made Safe by Michella Bredahl, published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König and designed by Kühle und Mozer, with texts by Michella Bredahl, Maria Bredahl and Stephanie LaCava.
