We never talk about it: shame. Worse, we often don’t even know what it is. Anders, ik wel (“Different, I am”) is an intimate and provocative performance exploring the journey of shame and alienation. Storytelling, personal narratives, and spoken word come together to reveal the silent layers of shame. These layers are often invisible but deeply affect how we experience ourselves and others. Geoffrey weaves mythology with his own experiences to create an evening full of discomfort, recognition, and connection. For those who were ever different. For those who still are. For those who always will be.
We never talk about it: shame. Worse, we often don’t even know what it is. Anders, ik wel is an intimate and provocative show about the journey through shame and alienation. Storytelling, personal stories, and spoken word combine to expose the quiet layers of shame, invisible yet powerfully shaping us. Geoffrey blends mythology and personal experience for a night of discomfort, recognition, and connection. For anyone who was ever different, still is, or always will be.
Theatre maker Geoffrey van der Ven tells stories that have long gone unheard. His first solo, Het is niet Nieuw (“It’s Not New”), explored queer history in Africa. He won ‘Poet of the Year’ at the Queer & Feminist Poetry Awards and received an honorable mention at Button Poetry. His work has been featured during the Eurovision Song Contest Rotterdam and performed at venues including Nieuwe Luxor Theater, Rotterdam Pride, and now for the second time at Amsterdam Fringe Festival.
