AK’CHAMEL (US/Akuphone) + LUKA SCHUURMAN (Drone Organ) + DJ BONE
Ak’chamel vs OCCII Round 3!
Ak’chamel, The Bandylegged Riders of the Ill-Promised Sun
They have been known by many names: The Givers of Illness; The Bandylegged Riders of the Ill-Promised Sun, etc... Honed and expanded through their travels, Ak’chamel’s singular sound comprising desert scorched psychedelia, post-apocalyptic shamanism, and bizarre ritual folk is as unique as the physical theater of their otherworldly live performances. Authors of around fifteen cassettes, three vinyls on Akuphone Records and several cryptic VHS videos, they have been active for over a decade and will spread their plague upon Europe for their third time.

An Ak’chamel set is something you can’t prepare for, you just dive in and see where the sounds of the experimental/noise act take you. Also, as we learned by chatting with the band after its set (they’re super nice, despite the daunting costumes they perform in), most Ak’chamel gigs don’t feature a lot of the band’s pre-recorded music. Ergo, no title for the show-closer which mesmerised us at a recent Big Top show. The low hum of the tune caused an ASMR reaction for this listener, who dopily enjoyed the scalp-tingling pyrotechnics Ak’chamel set off. (Houston press)
LUKA SCHUURMAN
Drone Organ.
From moments of tranquil meditation to full-on brain massage, the long-form drone explorations of composer Luka Schuurman on electric chord organ are are always an immersive experience. This uniquely tuned organ with its strange harmonic palette that he once bought from a street market, has inspired Schuurman to write drone music pieces for larger groups of guitars, triangles and chamber orchestra, but it works just as well as a solo instrument in a more intimate and minimalist setting.
Drone / ambient / microtonal
