About the Volkskeuken
Café De Ceuvel is organizing for the second year in a row a series of evenings around the theme ‘Amsterdam in development’. We offer a warm meal followed by an in-depth program. Sharing a meal has been one of the most essential forms of human connection since ancient times, something that is especially important today.
Why are we organizing this? As a sustainable incubator space, we find it important to make our programs as accessible as possible for every audience and every budget. This is one of the main principles guiding the design of our activities in the coming period.
Don’t feel obliged to stay for the program if you only want to join for the meal.
About the theme: Amsterdam in development
In this series we look, with the help of experts, at why urban development is so important for a city that is constantly changing. Amsterdam grows, renews, and sometimes clashes: social and economic interests, political choices, and the use of limited space continuously create tensions between those who use the city and those who manage it.
Developments change not only a place, but also the people who live and work there, and therefore the city as a whole. It concerns all of us, which is why it is important that accessible, free, and affordable spaces continue to exist. These make neighborhoods lively and strengthen the city. Moreover, it is essential that there remains room for experimentation, encounter, culture, entrepreneurship, and social initiatives, accessible to everyone involved in the city.
What programs, ideas, and area developments arise when we create and preserve space to try out the city of tomorrow on a small scale? The theme and De Ceuvel
In this series we explore how Amsterdam can develop sustainably by seeing projects not only as investment objects, but as places that contribute to an inclusive and resilient future. Incubator spaces such as De Ceuvel feel this tension strongly, which directly affects their continued existence.
