Many\nartists\, designers\, and cultural and social organ isations\, rely on these\nplatforms to connect with their communities and share their stories and their\nwork. But what if we can build our own arch ives and websites\, and create our own\nnetworks to share our stories\, as a way to keep authorship and intention in our\nown hands?\n\nThis hybird workshop\, led by Kexin Hong and Yiyao Wei\, opens through an\nintroductio n to Echoes from Afar [https:]\, an open-source\, living\, online\narchive that explores how digital infrastructures can challenge conventional\nfor ms of representation while opening up space for Asian diasporic communitie s\nto narrate their own stories. In its approach to storytelling\, the pro ject seeks\nto safeguard the integrity of personal narratives\, to cultiva te plurality and\nopenness in how stories surface and circulate\, and to l ay the groundwork for a\nliving archive that makes space for richer\, more textured forms of visibility in\nthe place of flattened or reductive imag es.\n\nIn the first part of the workshop\, participants will learn about E choes from\nAfar and the basics of self-uploading and managing artworks on the platform\, so\nthat participants can begin contributing their own wor k if they would like to.\nIn the second part of the workshop\, we will lea rn about the open-source workflow\nbehind the archive\, showing how partic ipants can build their own websites or\narchives using free and accessible tools that require no prior coding\nexperience. But what if we can build o ur own archives and websites, and create our own networks to share our sto ries, as a way to keep authorship and intention in our own hands?

Th is hybird workshop, led by Kexin Hong and Yiyao Wei, opens through an intr oduction to Echoes from Afar, an open-source , living, online archive that explores how digital infrastructures can cha llenge conventional forms of representation while opening up space for Asi an diasporic communities to narrate their own stories. In its approach to storytelling, the project seeks to safeguard the integrity of personal nar ratives, to cultivate plurality and openness in how stories surface and ci rculate, and to lay the groundwork for a living archive that makes space f or richer, more textured forms of visibility in the place of flattened or reductive images.

In the first part of the workshop, participants wi ll learn about Echoes from Afar and the basics of self-uploading and managing artworks on the platform, so that participants can begin cont ributing their own work if they would like to. In the second part of the w orkshop, we will learn about the open-source workflow behind the archive, showing how participants can build their own websites or archives using fr ee and accessible tools that require no prior coding experience. Throughou t this hands-on process, the workshop will draw on AI technologies, such a s Claude, as one of the working tools that can assist website building, wh ile still remaining grounded in a practice of ethical care.

No prior coding experience is necessary and you do not need to be of Asian heritag e to join this workshop.
