While most consumer computers lock us into systems that are\nbecoming increasingly unethical\, from non-consens ual surveillance to automatic\nAI integration no one asked for\, cyberdeck s are hacked together. Often built\nwith femininity and sustainability in mind\, they’re personalised with cute and\ncolourful items that would othe rwise be thrown away. In an age of mass-produced\ndevices\, cyberdecks tur n technology into a form of self-expression.\n\n\nMAKE YOUR PERSONALISED ‘ MESH-BERRY’! 🫐\n\nIn this workshop\, you’ll build your very own\, personal ised ‘mesh-berry’ 🫐\ndevice: a local chat tool that runs on a mesh network . You don’t need WiFi\,\ninternet\, or anything Big Tech related. To keep things accessible\, we won’t\nbuild a full computer\, but focus on a worki ng chat tool you can actually take\nhome and use\, change\, or build upon. \n\nGuided by web developer and artist Heerko van der Kooij\, you’ll learn how to\nhand-solder your own motherboard and how to style your chat progr am. Lilian\nStolk from The Hmm will go a bit deeper into the aesthetic sid e of things\,\nlooking at how (and why) to design a personal case for your device\n\nAfter the workshop\, you’ll walk away with a working mesh-berry that you can use\nto chat with other mesh-berry owners nearby. If your fr iends couldn’t make it to\nthis workshop\, you’ll have picked up the skill s to build one for them yourself.\n\n\nREQUIREMENTS AND PREP\n\nYou don’t need to have any experience with coding to join this workshop.
